Новый мэр Нью-Йорка Зохран Мамдани может изменить курс города в отношении криптовалют Translation: New Yorks New Mayor Zohran Mamdani May Shift the Citys Cryptocurrency Stance

Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani has emerged victorious in the New York City mayoral election. According to the Associated Press, he secured 50.6% of the votes, while his opponent Andrew Cuomo garnered 41.2%.

Mamdani’s rise to leadership could shift the city’s crypto policy, which has previously been favorable to the industry. In contrast, Cuomo had proposed the establishment of a local innovation director position to foster blockchain and cryptocurrency development.

Rebecca Liao, CEO of the Web3 protocol Saga, remarked that cryptocurrency issues are not top priorities for Mamdani’s voters. She referred to Cuomo as a «mainstream Democrat» who has traditionally championed the tech sector.

The former mayor, Eric Adams, also actively supported digital assets, having received his first three paychecks in Bitcoin and established a blockchain office.

Meanwhile, in neighboring New Jersey, Democrat Mikie Sherrill won the governor’s race, securing 57% of the vote compared to 42.4% for Republican Jack Ciattarelli.

The lobbying group Stand with Crypto has described this election as significant for the industry. The organization stated that it mobilized «cryptocurrency voters» who played a crucial role. According to the group, there are over 80,000 supporters living in New Jersey.
