Казахстан объявляет о запуске крипторезерва на основе конфискованных биткоинов до 1 миллиарда долларов Kazakhstan announces the launch of a crypto reserve based on confiscated bitcoins of up to $1 billion.

Kazakhstan is set to establish a government crypto reserve amounting to between $500 million and $1 billion. This was announced by the head of the National Bank of the country, Timur Suleimenov, as reported by Bloomberg Law.

The fund is expected to launch in 2026 and will operate through the Astana International Financial Center (AIFC), which serves as the primary hub in the country for blockchain technology development. Its foundation will be formed by digital assets confiscated in criminal cases related to illegal mining and trading.

Suleimenov first expressed the idea of creating a crypto reserve using seized bitcoins back in June. In September, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to expedite the implementation of this initiative.

Unlike direct investments in cryptocurrencies, the new structure will channel funds into exchange-traded products and shares of companies linked to digital assets.

Management of the fund will be entrusted to the state investment platform. After its launch, there may be opportunities to attract foreign partners.

This reserve will become an integral part of Kazakhstan’s strategy to institutionalize the crypto industry.

In May, the National Bank developed amendments to legislation that clarify the legal status of crypto exchange platforms and introduce licensing for their operations. In June, the regulator approved the issuance of payment crypto cards linked to wallets on licensed exchanges within AIFC.

In September, the Astana Financial Services Authority allowed the payment of regulatory fees in stablecoins. In the same month, the National Bank announced the launch of a pilot project for a «stablecoin» pegged to the national currency, the tenge.

It’s worth noting that in early October, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao met with the President of Kazakhstan and announced the KZTx token.
