Джефф Безос запускает амбициозный ИИ-стартап Project Prometheus с рекордным финансированием в $6,2 млрд English Translation: Jeff Bezos Launches Ambitious AI Startup Project Prometheus with Record Funding of $6.2 Billion

Amazon’s founder Jeff Bezos has become a co-founder and one of the leaders of the AI startup Project Prometheus. The company has already secured $6.2 billion in funding, as reported by The New York Times.

This marks Bezos’s first operational role since stepping down as CEO of Amazon in 2021. He is now entering direct competition with tech giants like Google, Meta, and OpenAI.

Project Prometheus aims to develop AI for the real economy, focusing on sectors such as aerospace, computing, and automotive engineering and manufacturing.

The goal is to create models that learn from data derived from the physical world, rather than exclusively relying on internet text, as large language models (LLMs) do.

The second co-founder and co-CEO is Vik Bajaj, a physicist and chemist who previously worked at Google X’s research lab. He was also one of the founders of Verily and led the Foresite Labs incubator.

Bajaj has updated his profile on LinkedIn; however, the startup’s page only has a brief description: «AI for the physical economy.»

According to sources, the company has already hired around 100 employees, including researchers from OpenAI, DeepMind, and Meta.

The startup is entering a crowded AI market. One of the first to respond to the news was Elon Musk, who is also developing his own project, xAI. He commented, «Haha, no way,» suggesting direct imitation.

It is worth noting that in August, OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman stated that the AI sector is in a bubble.

In November, Alphabet’s CEO Sundar Pichai emphasized that no company is insulated from potential collapse in the artificial intelligence market.
