Джек Дорси называет биткоин валютой, победившей в криптомире Jack Dorsey Calls Bitcoin a Currency That Triumphs in the Crypto World

Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Block, stated that Bitcoin is not a cryptocurrency, sparking lively discussions within the community.

He pointed out that the term «crypto» does not appear in the white paper of digital gold. Satoshi Nakamoto characterized it as a «peer-to-peer version of electronic cash» and an «electronic payment system based on cryptographic proof.»

In one of his recent posts, the creator of Bitcoin also referred to it as «a digital currency that eliminates the need for a trusted central server through cryptography and a distributed ledger.» Dorsey specifically emphasized the term «currency.»

About an hour prior to his controversial tweet, he stated, “Bitcoin is money.”

Dorsey supported this tweet by highlighting the successes of his company Block and its division Square in implementing free payments in the leading cryptocurrency. At the time of this writing, over 3.8 million users had viewed Dorsey’s post, and the comment count surpassed 4,500.

Many failed to grasp what the Block founder meant. David Schwartz, the CTO of Ripple, speculated that Dorsey believes Bitcoin should be viewed as a payment system rather than a speculative asset.

Some community members agreed with this position, emphasizing the asset’s uniqueness as a digital currency. A few even referred to Bitcoin as «gold in the metal world,» suggesting that the coin stands apart from the rest of the market.

“True. Bitcoin is money, and crypto is technology,” wrote a user who concurred with Dorsey’s viewpoint.

Muneeb Ali, the founder of the Stacks project, took a more cautious stance. He noted that while Bitcoin is indeed different from other cryptocurrencies, the vitality of its on-chain economy remains uncertain.

“Bitcoin is distinct from the rest of the crypto industry, but we need to enhance the creation of a viable on-chain economy built on it. Frankly, some crypto projects showcase more impressive results in attracting developers and utilizing decentralized applications,” he stated.

However, many users maintain that the market leader is still a cryptocurrency. One user accused Dorsey of excessive maximalism, which leads to confusion:

“Jack, what’s the point of your tweet? ‘Crypto’ is short for ‘cryptocurrency,’ which literally means ‘cryptographic currency.’ The Bitcoin protocol uses cryptography to hash new blocks into the ledger. Your statement, or those of other Bitcoin maximalists, creates some kind of paradox.”

It is worth noting that in February, Sean Murray, the editor-in-chief of deBanked, labeled Dorsey as the creator of Bitcoin.
