Бутан инвестирует в будущее: 10 000 BTC на создание инновационного Города осознанности Translation: Bhutan Invests in the Future: 10,000 BTC for the Creation of an Innovative City of Mindfulness

The Kingdom of Bhutan has initiated the Bitcoin Development Pledge program. The government plans to allocate up to 10,000 BTC (approximately $1 billion) to bolster the national economy.

The primary objective of the program is to facilitate the construction of the Gelphu Mindfulness City (GMC). This economic hub, located in the southern part of the kingdom, focuses on sustainable development and innovation.

In the coming months, the government will approve an asset management strategy. Various options are being explored, including using Bitcoin as collateral, low-risk income-generating instruments, and long-term storage solutions.

Ensuring the preservation of capital and its purchasing power for future generations remains a top priority, as Bhutan bets on the continued increase in the value of the first cryptocurrency.

In a national address, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck likened GMC to a company, with its citizens as shareholders:

“I announce the allocation of up to 10,000 BTC, valued at approximately $1 billion, to support this policy. This is a commitment to our people, youth, and nation.”

GMC will be designated as a special administrative region. Transparent regulations are aimed at attracting international business from the fintech and digital asset sectors.

For several years, the kingdom has been mining cryptocurrencies using renewable hydroelectric power. This approach allows for monetizing excess production without harming the environment.

The country ranks seventh globally in terms of reserves in digital gold, holding 5,984 BTC, valued at over $517 million.

Bhutan is also actively implementing blockchain technologies. The nation has launched a digital identification system for 800,000 citizens and introduced the TER token, backed by physical gold.

It is worth noting that GMC and market maker Cumberland DRW have signed a memorandum of understanding. The partners will focus on developing the digital asset ecosystem and financial infrastructure of the kingdom.
